Buying a new home is much more than just the amount of bedrooms and the price. Thinking about more will help prepare you for seeing homes and trying to find the one! Here are a few things to look for when you're shopping for your perfect home.
1. Location: Location is key when it comes to buying a home. Not just the area of town – but thinking about stores nearby, the closest park, the school district, how far is the expressway, are there walkable bars, etc. Knowing the way you want to live your life helps you decide which location is the best for your life.
2. Community/neighborhood: It is important to take time to understand the people you’d be living around. This includes learning about the culture, the people, and the events happening in the area. This is important to ensure you have a sense of belonging and that you fit in with the locals.
3. Size of rooms: Size matters but in the right places. You want to make sure the home is big enough for your needs. Do you need a large playroom, or a big office? If you like to be outdoors you’ll need outdoor space for entertainment or gardening. Do you need a dining room for four or for twelve?
4. Acceptable Condition: How much renovation are you willing to do? Can you let some small aesthetic issues go if it is the right layout? If there have been termites in the past, proof of foundation issues, or the past presence of mice before will that stop you from buying? You need to consider your non-negotiables.
5. Growth: Do you need to be able to grow into this house? Will it hold how your grow in your life/family? Do you need this house to grow in value so you can use the funds to move in 2, 5, 10 years? Thinking if it meets current needs but also what your needs may become.
These are just a few of the things to consider when you’re looking for a new home – making sure you have thought about these things or talked them through will help you finding your home!
